The Art of Parenting How to Raise Strong Girls (and Boys Who Respect Them)
Sunday, November 10 2013, 2:00pm - 3:30pm

Parents, grandparents, educators, and caregivers are invited to a presentation and group discussion focusing on how to raise girls who are strong and confident, as well as boys who value and respect their female peers.

We will discuss gender stereotypes, media impact, sexism, and strategies that help children and adults create socially healthy school and home environments.

About the co-facilitators, Megan Sullivan and Kelly McNeely-Nutting:

  • Megan Sullivan is the mother of two girls and teaches Social-Emotional Learning and Sex Education for grades 6 through 12 at Sacramento Waldorf School. Sullivan led the Crocker's inaugural Art of Parenting program on how to speak to children about sex.
  • Kelly McNeely-Nutting has a son and two daughters and teaches Social-Emotional Learning at Sacramento Waldorf School. Her areas of expertise include anti-bias and anti-oppressive education, as well as restorative justice. She is a master's candidate in Community Mental Health at the California Institute of Integral Studies.

Join us for refreshments at 1:45. The talk starts promptly at 2:00.

Creative Care is available for children ages 6-10 and costs $5 for Crocker members; $10 for nonmembers. Advance registration is recommended, as space is limited.
