To Sunday, September 09 2012 - 5:00pm

Day 1: Saturday, Sept. 8, 9am-5 pm

Day 2: Sunday, Sept. 9, 9 am–5 pm

For a truly local, sustainable food supply, we need more farmers. Participants will get an up-close and hands-on snapshot of skill- and knowledge to be a small scale farmer (10 acres or less). The class includes: crop planning, irrigation systems, soil fertility (animal management, cover cropping, composting, etc), orcharding, farm tools and machinery, marketing/sales, and plant propagation/greenhouse management. If you are thinking about farming or want to have a home garden that serves as a food supply for your family, this is a great place to start!

  • Snacks and drinks will be provided. Please bring a bag lunch.
  • Wear clothes and shoes that can be worn into the field.
  • Bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and garden gloves.

First day of class will be held at Soil Born Farms American River Ranch 2140 Chase Dr. in Rancho Cordova. Second day will be held at Soil Born Farm on Hurley Way, 3000 Hurley Way, Sacramento
