Soil Born Farms Urban Agriculture & Education Project The mission of this project is to create an urban agriculture project that strengthens and supports local food systems by educating youth and adults about food, nutrition, sustainable living and ecological farming; building relationships between farmers, consumers and educators; and contributing to food security in our community. The Co-op co-sponsors Soil Born’s two largest fundraisers each year — A Day on the Farm and the Autumn Equinox Celebration. The Co-op also hosts monthly fundraising dinners in the Community Learning Center and collaborates on gardening classes held at the two Soil Born farm sites.
One Farm at a Time The Co-op is a founding collaborative partner in the One Farm at a Time program - dedicated to encourage our community to invest in local farms and farmland to ensure sources of local food for generations to come. Make an online donation here
Sacramento Cooperative Community Fund In 2001, the Co-op in conjunction with the Twin Pines Cooperative Foundation established the SCCF, an endowment fund from which the Co-op donates the interest earnings to local non-profit and cooperative organizations. Click here for more information.
Food Share Program ![]() ![]() ![]() The Co-op's Food Share Program helps to feed the hungry in the Sacramento area. Shoppers' donations (over $1000 each quarter) received at the cash registers are distributed equally among the food programs of four local non-profit organizations, including Loaves & Fishes, Sacramento Food Bank, Salvation Army and Sharing God's Bounty. In addition, the Co-op makes donations to these community groups on behalf of Food Share. Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS) The SFBFS provides a variety of programs to needy individuals and families in the Sacramento area. Food assistance, clothing, parent and children’s programs and educational workshops give hope, build self-esteem and strengthen families, moving them toward self-sufficiency and independence. For every dollar donated, the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services distributes $10 worth of products and services back into the community.The Co-op provides simple cooking demonstrations and nutritional information and resources at SFBFS mobile food distributions several times each month, and sponsors the annual Run to Feed the Hungry fundraiser each Thanksgiving.
Planned Parenthood The Co-op works with Planned Parenthood Teen Success Program to provide hands-on cooking classes for program participants.
Community Discount Program Helping Individuals and Families with limited incomes in our community. Learn more HERE. CalFresh (Formerly known as the Food Stamp Program). The Co-op offers a 10% discount to limited income individuals and families who receive assistance from the CalFresh program and accepts CalFresh EBT.
SMUD – Sacramento Municipal Utility District Non-GMO Project The Co-op is a supporting retailer in the Non-GMO project, an organization that offers consumer information about Genetically Modified Organisms and offers third party product verification for manufacturers wishing to avoid including GMOs in their products.
Ecological Farming Association Make Every Day Earth Day Program ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Every time Co-op shoppers bring in a reuseable bag for their groceries, the Co-op donates five cents to non-profit environmental groups. Green Restaurants Alliance of Sacramento (GRAS) The Co-op collects used wined corks to be repurposed through a recycling program that GRAS organizes.
Slow Food Sacramento The Co-op collaborates with Slow Food Sacramento on events that educate our community about the importance of local food, sustainability and farm preservation, and the Co-op also sponsors Slow Food Sac’s annual Urban Ag Fest event held each June.
Environmental Council of Sacramento The Co-op sponsors the ECOS Earth Day Festival at Southside Community park each year.
Save the American River Association SARA’s mission is to protect and enhance the wildlife habitat, fishery, and recreational resources of the American River Parkway and other regional parks.
Food System Collaborative This is a coalition of public, private, and nonprofit stakeholders working to inform and influence policy initiatives relevant to the regional food system in the 6-county Capital Region.
Edible Pedal Edible Pedal delivers food from some of Sacramento’s best restaurants to your place of work or rest. They also deliver CSA boxes from local farms to your door, and organize group bike rides and farm tours and have a Midtown bike shop.
Center for Food Safety Center for Food Saftey is a non-profit public interest and environmental advocacy organization whose purpose is to challenge harmful food production technologies and promote sustainable alternatives. Donate to their legal defense fund and help them fight Monsanto! |
